Media Temple Hosting: I’m Glad I Waited!
It looks as if the Grid–Server architecture is having significant teething problems with spotty support, significant outages, and slow response times when websites are up. Read some of these comments on MT hosting, starting with #122 and especially #131 on. Sounds a little ugly! I’m going to watch as things progress. Hopefully these are just teething problems and not that the architecture itself is unworkable!
This contrasts with the quite good service I’ve received recently at Yahoo. I’m not moving yet…

Hi Matt,
It’s Alex again from (mt). Yes, we had a firmware bug in a section of storage, the response has been overwhelming and we had to tweak the way we were clustering MySQL. I can report that all of the MySQL/harware issues have been corrected, we’re staffing up with several new techs coming online this week and finally, look out for our case studies of some of the power users on the Grid-Server. www.kiva.org, www.swarmthe.com and www.flashearth.com are some great examples of high traffic, high demand sites that fly on the grid. Kiva.org alone has been generating 10000-20000qps. Combine that with 10,000 other domains running and I’d say we are off to a good start. We’re absolutely blown away with the response we’ve had to the Grid-Server and the incredible customers who are as excited about this as we are.
Drop me a line if you ever have a question or if you ever decide to make the move!
Cheers,
Alex
Thanks, Alex.
I will definitely take a look at your case study websites and continue to monitor Grid-Server progress.
