Photo Restoration
Old photographs are of special interest to all of us. They document our family’s history and visually show others where we’ve come from. Matt Russell Graphics looks on preservation of these types of images as a privilege and takes great care to make sure that everything that can be done to save or improve upon an image is done.
Digital restoration techniques can do a lot to improve old, scratched–up, faded photographs, all without any danger to the old photo itself. All work to the image is done using a high–resolution scan of the photo. Once all the scratches and enhancements are done to the image, including enlarging if desired, it is then printed on an archival paper (with a choice of matte, semi-glossy, or glossy) using the latest archival inks. Restoration can be done on a single image or a group of images. In addition, we have had a lot of experience arranging groups of photos into unified collages, with and without descriptive text. A collage makes a very nice focal point for a room!
On the following pages, we will take you through some examples of restoration of some of our own family photographs. We will detail various points where major improvements were needed in a “before” image and then show the results, also point by point, in the “after” or final image. At the end of the discussion, we will detail our pricing policy for these services. Please e-mail us if you have any questions after reading these pages.
Thanks a lot!
Matt
Trio “Before”
In this “before” image, there is a very noticeable lack of contrast and sharpness overall, a very muddy image! At A1, notice the lack of detail and contrast in the face. At A2 and A3 there are objects that detract from the overall image.
Trio “After”
In this “after” image, see how the image has a lot more “pop” to it. The contrast and sharpness are much improved overall. At B1, there is much more detail and contrast. At truB2 and B3, the distracting objects have been completely taken out of the image. This is a big improvement over the “before” photo!
